Celebrating 25 years of Construction Excellence

Harrah’s Horseshoe Casino, Hammond, IN

Overview

The Harrah’s Horseshoe Casino, located in Hammond, IN, underwent major renovations completed in August 2008. The portion of the work for which Rausch was responsible was the Harrah’s Horseshoe Casino Replacement Project, which involved marine construction and bridge work.

project details

Rausch Construction Company, Inc. worked as a subcontractor to Pepper Construction for the construction of the new floating casino. As a qualified contractor with marine capabilities, Rausch was able to perform work from the lake including using a 175 ton Manitowoc Crane, lifting 80,000 lbs mooring structures and securing them to the lake bottom using 95 foot long pipe pile.

Other work that Rausch self-performed was dredging, off-shore pile driving, sheet pile seawalls, H-Pile bridge foundations, and erection of structural steel bridges connecting the casino to land.

For this project Rausch had to comply with a strict completion date of 8-8-08. In order to adhere to this demanding deadline, Rausch worked around the clock on two 12-hour shifts for two weeks when the Casino Vessel was moved from its construction temporary moorings to the permanent moorings. During this two week period, the vessel was moved 150 feet and connected to the permanent moorings. For this maneuver, Rausch erected eight bridges which tied the vessel to land.

Rausch also designed and constructed a 50 foot long bridge which was capable of supporting a 250 ton Manitowoc Crane. This crane was moved from shore onto the vessel to erect all of the structural steel for the casino structure on the six barges. The six barges form a 180,000 square foot floating base for the casino.
