project details
The CenterPoint Intermodal Facility is a redevelopment of the former Joliet Arsenal, on 2,500 acres of land, with a total project investment of $1 Billion. Rausch Construction Company, Inc. completed construction of a train crossing bridge on Baseline Road at the Intermodal Facility.
Due to the massive scale of the overall project, scheduling of work was performed on a daily basis with the client and other site contractors in order to ensure seamless and uninterrupted operations of all parties. Rausch coordinated the construction of the bridge with adjacent contractors, as installation of the train crossing below was occurring simultaneously.
Rausch completed all work on this bridge several weeks ahead of CenterPoint’s strict completion date of June 1st, which was required due to the commencement of the station’s railroad operations.
Due to this accelerated schedule, nearly all work was completed in the harsh winter months. After driving H-Piles to form the bridge pier foundation, cast-in-place concrete was poured and immediately enclosed and blanketed to maintain proper curing temperatures. All bridge deck beams were pre-fabricated offsite and were then set in place. The bridge deck, spanning 80 FT by 215 FT, was completed in one concrete pour.
Rausch self-performed nearly all work and engaged subcontractors to complete the parapet fence and bridge deck grooving and striping.
